Analysing the stories

From the survey sent out to gain the individual stories, significant trends began to appear, shared opinions, backgrounds and even generational progression.

1st Jobs

The first jobs of many of these migrants were blue-collar, mostly factory-related jobs in textile mills, or production lines. 

Next generation

However, within just one generation, some of their sons and daughters began to go to university, get professional jobs, and even begin businesses. 

Third generation

Within the third generation, their grandchildren, we can see various levels of employment and education, further demonstrating the generational progression. 

Area of Origin in Pakistan

The 1st generation came from a multitude of places within Pakistan, however, Gujurat was the most common place of origin. 

Area of Migration in Britain

Whilst they lived in many areas up and down the country, Lancashire and areas up north were especially popular

Year of Migration

Most migration happened within the 1950s to 1980s, with 1960 being an especially prevalent year of British Pakistani Migration
